Mall assault suspect granted strict bail after injuring two boys
An 18-year-old man accused of attacking two boys at a shopping centre has been granted strict bail.
An 18-year-old man accused of knocking over two boys, aged two and four, at Westfield Belconnen on August 14, has been granted bail. The younger child suffered a broken nose and his brother had head injuries.
The accused has an intellectual impairment. He was arrested two days later and at first denied bail.
The accused spent about a month in custody. Then a second bail application worked.
He must remain at home unless accompanied by two people. Outside, he must stay within touching distance of them.
He must stay five metres from children and comply with police door checks. His lawyer said the arrangement is a first step toward long-term support.
