Canberra man pleads guilty to killing caravan park neighbour
Paul Bruce Bray, 50, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a fight with neighbour Matthew McGrail, 34, ended in death.
Two men living at Southside Village caravan park in Canberra had been drinking together on 15 September 2025 when an argument erupted. McGrail punched Bray during a dispute about children, knocking him down.
The pair briefly made up, then fought again. Bray choked McGrail from behind; neighbours heard crashes as they crashed into walls.
McGrail lost consciousness while being choked. Bray attempted CPR but waited 15 minutes before calling emergency services.
McGrail was taken to Canberra Hospital and died three days later from strangulation injuries. Bray pleaded guilty to manslaughter in ACT Supreme Court last week and remains in custody pending sentencing on 5 April 2027.
