Schubert set to tour Gold Coast as Suns pursue young Hawk for trade
Hawthorn's Aidan Schubert is touring Gold Coast's facilities as the Suns pursue a trade for the 18-year-old despite his contract through 2029.
Young Hawks midfielder Aidan Schubert is set to visit Gold Coast's training facilities as soon as Tuesday, signalling serious trade interest from the Suns. The move comes after Ben King agreed to leave the Suns to join Hawthorn as a free agent.
Hawthorn's forward line is now crowded: King just arrived, and Calsher Dear recently re-signed. Schubert, an 18-year-old South Australian, is contracted to the Hawks through 2029 but may see fewer opportunities ahead.
Hawthorn is not blocking his interest in the Suns' offer. The Suns will have to wait until Hawthorn formally registers King's free agency paperwork, which could come as early as Tuesday.
Once that happens, Gold Coast will have three days to match the deal or accept pick 7 as compensation.
