Corporal Brendan Hannam killed in Northern Territory training accident
Corporal Brendan Hannam, 28, died in an accident on Monday. A troop carrier overturned during an exercise in the Northern Territory.
Hannam was from the 5/7 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. Hannam was a passenger in the carrier when it overturned at Mount Bundey near Darwin at 5pm local time.
Six people were injured in the accident. Two are in stable condition at Royal Darwin Hospital.
Three are being treated at the barracks hospital at Mount Bundey. Hannam leaves behind his partner and two young children.
Army Chief Lieutenant General Susan Coyle described him as a beloved junior leader. He had served on two tours to Afghanistan in 2019.
He also trained Ukrainian soldiers with British forces in the UK. His mates said he was generous and devoted to his family.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese paid tribute to Hannam. He said the incident reminds us of the sacrifice families make when a loved one serves in uniform.
