Western Sydney airport opens this month: parking is cheaper, flights are not
Western Sydney airport opens this month with much cheaper parking, but flight prices are generally the same or higher than Kingsford Smith.
Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) airport begins commercial flights later this month near Badgerys Creek, 60 kilometres west of Sydney. Qantas, Jetstar, Fiji Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand and Vietjet have announced services.
Parking at WSI costs $147 for a week. At Kingsford Smith, domestic parking costs $213 and international costs $249.
Flight prices tell a mixed story. Jetstar to Melbourne starts at $187 from WSI versus $258 from Kingsford Smith, a $71 saving.
To Brisbane, Kingsford Smith fares start at $207 versus $236 from WSI. To the Gold Coast, WSI has flights at $131 versus $192 from Kingsford Smith.
For most international flights, Kingsford Smith is cheaper unless you factor in parking savings or live far west.
