Aldi beats IGA on price for healthy grocery basket
Aldi's healthy grocery basket costs $28.79, undercutting IGA at $42.27, according to a fresh Choice consumer survey.
Aldi has beaten Australia's three major supermarket chains on price for health-focused groceries, according to a nationwide Choice survey of 104 stores. A basket of nutritious items, spinach, broccoli, carrots, chicken breast, yoghurt, hummus, chickpeas and rolled oats, cost just $28.79 at Aldi, compared to $33.52 at Woolworths, $34.25 at Coles, and $42.27 at IGA.
All four chains have raised prices since June, with IGA climbing most at 11 per cent and Aldi second at 8 per cent. Woolworths posted the smallest increase, up 2 per cent.
Across Australia, 82 per cent of households now rate food costs as a major financial pressure.
