Lakes United to shift home ground in $4.6m Belmont sports upgrade
The $4.6 million Belmont upgrade will give Lakes United a new home ground.
The federal government confirmed $4.6 million in funding for the continued redevelopment of Lake Macquarie's Belmont Sports Complex. Lakes United rugby league club will move their home ground from the ageing Cahill Oval.
The move will happen once stage 2a and 2b construction finishes. Work begins in July 2027.
The upgrade includes a new grandstand, conference area and change rooms at Barton Field 1. It also has first-aid facilities and car parking there.
The wider $6.19 million package also funds lighting upgrades at four ovals. It covers new netball seating and field drainage across the region.
Federal member Pat Conroy said sporting groups have relied too long on raffles and barbecues. What they need is enough government support.
