Froling chases WNBL title to match her mother's Tasmanian legacy

Basketball forward Keely Froling aims to win a WNBL championship with the Jewels, following in her mother Jenny's footsteps from 1991.

Keely Froling has played in the WNBL since age 15 but never found the fan support she has with Tasmania's first season. Keely's mother Jenny won a title with the Hobart Islanders in 1991, and Keely is determined to add one for the family.

Froling, 30, won two titles at Canberra but says Tasmania's backing is unlike anything in her 15-year league career. The Jewels face Sydney at the Silverdome on Saturday in their first game at the northern venue, where five matches are scheduled this season.

Froling strained her calf in the opening game against Geelong but played on. She hopes to play against Sydney and wants Launceston to make the Silverdome a fortress.

The team's world-class training facility gives them an edge, she said, with the ability to work extra any time.
