Queanbeyan sports clubs volunteer to finish respite care facility
Sporting clubs in Queanbeyan are volunteering Saturday to work on the gardens at the Yvonne Cuschieri House respite facility.
The Yvonne Cuschieri House is built and ready for its final touch: landscaping. On Saturday, five local sporting clubs are volunteering their time.
They will plant trees and shrubs. They will spread mulch around the facility.
The project has received support across the community. The Rotary Club is contributing $10,000.
Multiple businesses are donating materials and labour. The facility was named after Yvonne Cuschieri.
She founded the respite care advocacy group. She did this after her son was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
She campaigned for a youth respite centre until her death in 2021. Once landscaping is complete, the focus will move to getting government funding.
This funding will help operate the facility.
