Finn Maginness learns his trade to Western Bulldogs in a Moroccan cafe
Finn Maginness learned of his trade from Hawthorn to the Bulldogs days later at a Moroccan cafe.
Maginness was trekking in the Sahara Desert when the five-club trade was finalised. Finn Maginness had texted the Bulldogs' list manager to say he would be off the grid and asked them to let the team know he would not be ignoring messages.
When he reached a cafe in Merzouga, he saw the deal had gone through. Finn Maginness faced a deluge of missed calls and messages.
The 25-year-old had played 64 games across seven seasons at Hawthorn but was desperate for more opportunity. Coach Luke Beveridge had watched him lay 10 tackles and record 27 touches in a reserves game and was convinced he could strengthen the midfield.
Maginness signed a three-year deal despite the emotional wrench of leaving a club his father and grandfather had played for.
