NSW coal transition bill stalled in parliament, may miss election deadline
The Future Jobs and Investment Bill, stalled since November 2025, may not pass before the March 2027 election.
NSW Premier Chris Minns has admitted the Future Jobs and Investment Bill may not pass through parliament before next year's election. The bill has been stuck in the upper house since November 2025.
The bill contains measures to help thousands of coal workers in the Hunter transition to new jobs through investment attraction, alternative industry development, and retraining programmes. Minns has been unable to secure enough support from the crossbench to pass it.
He is calling on MPs to at least put the bill to a vote so voters can see how their representatives stand before March.
