Griffith shops getting first major upgrade in more than a decade
The ACT Government is planning upgrades to Griffith and Palmerston shops starting in February 2027, with work to finish by August.
Griffith shopping centre in Canberra's inner south will receive its first major upgrade since 2015. The works will include new shade sails, lighting, furniture and cleaning of the mosaic pavement artwork dating to the 2000s.
Palmerston shops will get new play equipment, trees and safer footpaths. The Griffith and Palmerston upgrades aim to make the shopping areas more accessible, welcoming and safer for customers.
At Griffith, the work focuses on the front facing Barker Street, footpaths and the park area. At Palmerston, the upgrades include new pram ramps, bollards to stop vehicles mounting footpaths and a concrete play zone.
The upgrades are timed to coincide with the new Inner South Health Centre and a stormwater retention basin in nearby Throsby Park. Construction will run for 26 weeks, starting in early February and finishing in early August.
