Manuka hotel nears opening but Hilton deal stays unconfirmed
A five-star hotel with 192 rooms is under construction in Manuka's CBD. It has no official opening date or operator yet. Hilton rumors persist.
The building on the former Manuka cinema site has fresh paint and paving. Inside, there are no fittings, furniture or carpet yet.
Developers Sotiria and John Liangis told local media in May the hotel would open this year. They stayed quiet when asked about timelines this week.
Local people focus on Hilton. Last year, Mrs Liangis announced that a major international hotel chain would run the 192-room, five-star hotel.
The hotel would include a restaurant, bar, conference rooms, a ballroom and shops. When The Canberra Times asked Hilton directly, a spokeswoman said the group looks for opportunities across Australia.
But she had no new Canberra project to confirm.
