Commonwealth Park fills as Canberrans dig up Floriade bulbs

Each $20 tote bag lets people take home as many bulbs as they can fit, with proceeds going to YWCA Canberra.

Thousands of people flocked to Commonwealth Park in Canberra to take home Floriade bulbs. The Great Big Bulb Dig came the day after Floriade, Canberra's spring flower festival, ended.

Each $20 official tote bag was filled with festival flowers, as many as would fit. All bag money goes to YWCA Canberra, which has set a fundraising target of $100,000.

Crimmins said the money helps deliver homes for vulnerable women and children affected by domestic and family violence. YWCA CEO Frances Crimmins said she was confident the target would be met.

More than 2,000 people were ready to enter when the gates opened. Jenny, Kylie and Susan flew all the way from Brisbane to take part.
