One Nation's decisions ruled by unelected figures, minister warns
Environment Minister Murry Watt says unelected figures overrule elected One Nation members on policy.
A senior minister has told One Nation that unelected party figures are blocking elected MPs from working on local issues. Environment Minister Murry Watt said he tried to negotiate with One Nation MP David Farley on funding for the Murray-Darling Basin.
Water management and economic pressure hurt communities in that region. The government gave $50 million this week for jobs there.
Earlier it backed a $14.5 million package for SunRice's expansion in Farley's NSW electorate. Watt noted that One Nation's elected members struggle to deliver results for their voters.
Unelected party figures, particularly James Ashby, overrule their decisions. Ashby left the chief of staff role.
He became One Nation's director. He is considering a run for parliament.
Watt said this raises questions about what decisions they would make if they formed a government. He questioned how those decisions would be made.

Why it mattersOne Nation's internal control structure limits its ability to work on local problems. This happens even when its own MPs want to help their communities.
AustraliaAustralian voters in One Nation electorates may struggle to see local funding and policy wins if their elected MPs cannot make independent decisions with government.
