Tedesco loses bench spot as Walters backs Walker for Samoa

James Tedesco dropped to reserves; Sam Walker promoted to bench ahead of World Cup semi-final.

Coach Kevin Walters made a late change to the team on Saturday. Walters removed James Tedesco from the bench and promoted Sam Walker from Sydney Roosters.

Walters said the change reflects the midfield battle. Newcastle's Bradman Best got the starting centre role over Latrell Mitchell, who moves to the bench.

Walters said it was a tough call but backed Best's form through the season and finals. The Kangaroos play Samoa on Sunday night at Allianz Stadium; the winner goes to the Rugby League World Cup final against New Zealand.

Walters also brought in NSW Blues legend Brad Fittler to address the squad and present jerseys to lift the group.
