Walters backs Staggs to shine in World Cup semi-final

Australia coach Kevin Walters is confident Kotoni Staggs will deliver at centre while Latrell Mitchell waits to impact from the bench.

Kevin Walters has defended his team selection for Sunday's World Cup semi-final against Samoa at Allianz Stadium, backing centre Kotoni Staggs to produce his best performance. Staggs has started every Kangaroos match this tournament.

Walters said he expects to see the best version of the Broncos star. Latrell Mitchell, who plays on the left, dropped to the bench after missing the past two group matches.

Walters described Mitchell as a match-winner with big-game experience, saying he felt it important to have him available to change the game. James Tedesco was dropped to make room, with Reece Walsh keeping the number one jersey.

Walters remains confident in both squad options.
