Adam James Britt pleaded guilty to murdering his partner Tiffany Spence in a brutal attack lasting more than two days. Adam James Britt admitted to the ACT Supreme Court the assault was deliberate punishment and torture.
Spence, 36, suffered blunt force trauma across 40% of her body. When Britt called paramedics in September 2022, he lied about her injuries and placed a hammer in her hand to suggest she had harmed herself.
The court is determining whether Britt intended to kill her or merely cause serious harm. Britt admitted taking photographs of Spence during the attack and later downloading pornography while she was severely injured.
When asked how he expected her to survive such injuries, he said he thought her swollen eyes would reduce over time. The prosecutor urged a life sentence, saying the attack was so severe it would have been a terrifying death.
