Six global architects chosen to design Sydney's 8500-home harbour suburb
Six international architecture teams shortlisted from 165 entrants will play an ongoing role in developing the 77-hectare Bays West site.
The Minns government plans to shift bulk port operations from Glebe Island by 2030. The area around White Bay Power Station will open for a new harbourside suburb.
The shortlisted teams designed King's Cross in London, the Tate Modern, and Copenhagen's Nordhavn. Two Sydney firms, Bates Smart and BVN, are also in the running.
Up to 8500 new homes and expanded public harbour access will reshape Sydney's inner waterfront. Public design submissions go on exhibition in early 2027.
The metro station opens in 2032. At least 10 per cent of homes will be affordable or for essential workers.
