The New Zealand Startup Hub (NEST) Network opened its first location this week in Christchurch. The space is 1,100 square metres on Colombo Street.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon attended the opening. The hub will serve as Ministry of Awesome's Christchurch base.
It offers workstations, meeting rooms, event spaces, recording studios, mentoring and business development support. It aims to bring together enough people and knowledge to help startups grow.
It will build infrastructure for New Zealand's economic development. The network brings together founders, investors, mentors, academics, corporate partners and government.
Potential future locations include Auckland, Wellington and smaller centres such as Whangārei, Taranaki, Nelson and Wānaka. The model uses tiered memberships and regional knowledge.
Corporate sponsors help grow high-growth startups. The goal is one per 1,000 New Zealanders.
