MKR contestants Mary and Golden say dessert scoring was unfair
Victoria-based nurses Mary and Golden came second on MKR but felt their traditional mango float dessert was unfairly marked down.
Mary and Golden, Filipino nurses competing on My Kitchen Rules, said they were hurt by how judges scored their mango float ice-cream sandwich dessert. For them, the instant restaurant was about sharing the food and traditions they grew up with back home.
The shrimp fritter entrée landed well, but the Cebu lechon belly pork dish came out overcooked. Mary admitted calling herself the queen of pork before proving it was a mistake.
The dessert, a traditional Filipino dish they ate throughout childhood, didn't connect with judges or fellow contestants, who didn't understand it. Despite the low score, Mary and Golden say they're proud of their cuisine and will keep cooking traditional dishes.
