Alan Kohler retires from ABC after more than 30 years as finance guru
Alan Kohler, who spent 24 years as ABC's 7pm news finance presenter, is retiring at 74.
Alan Kohler, one of Australia's most recognised financial commentators, has announced his retirement from the ABC after more than 30 years. The 74-year-old is best known for his 24-year run as the channel's main 7pm news finance reporter.
Millions of viewers heard his signature sign-off: 'and that's finance'. Kohler told ABC staff it would feel strange to leave the broadcaster he has always loved.
But he wants to spend more time with his family, including six grandchildren. Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers paid tribute, saying Kohler had handled complex economic issues with rare skill and seriousness.
He would be greatly missed. Before joining the ABC in 1995, Kohler was an editor at both the AFR and The Age.
