Aussie accused of Thai teen's murder denies police account in prison interview
Simon Peter Carman, 46, tells SMH he was victim of a street hustle gone wrong, not a killer.
Simon Peter Carman is imprisoned in Pattaya, accused of murdering 17-year-old Thanchanok Donhomla in his rented condo on June 25. Thai police say she died by suffocation and brain injury.
Carman claims in his first interview that she threatened him with a knife demanding money, and that he restrained her in self-defence. Carman says he watched her breathe the whole time and never restricted her airways.
Security footage shows them holding hands entering his building. Thai authorities vetted his account before release.
He faces potential death penalty if convicted. Carman has pleaded guilty to moving her body but not guilty to murder.
