Only 8 of 45 super funds met the retirement support benchmark
The 2026 Epic Retirement Tick went to just eight funds. They met 14 of 20 support criteria for retirees.
Australian superannuation funds are failing to prepare members for retirement. A new industry assessment found this problem.
Only eight of 45 regulated funds earned an approval tick for their retirement support. Funds are rated on investment performance, fee competitiveness, innovative products and member services.
To pass, they needed to meet at least 14 of 20 criteria. Many Australians approaching retirement face severe savings shortfalls.
The median super balance for people aged 60 to 64 is just over $200,000. A single homeowner needs about $630,000 for a comfortable retirement.
The eight funds that passed include AMP, Aware, Hostplus and Vision Super. They stand out for offering same-day payments.
They offer digital security and guaranteed lifetime income options like annuities. Three funds are new to the tick this year.
Standards were tightened: funds must have no regulatory enforcement actions. Digital delivery and cybersecurity rules are now tougher too.
