Schrinner revives 30-year-old Brisbane busway plan
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner wants to revive an abandoned 1990s busway plan.
Almost 30 years ago, Queensland proposed 75 kilometres of busways for Brisbane, but built only about one-third. Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner wants to revive the unfinished plan with new bridges, tunnels, and dedicated routes for the Metro.
The proposal includes 22 new stops and stations, plus an airport link not in the original 1990s plan. Brisbane City Council is opening the proposal to public consultation first, asking residents where they want the Metro expanded.
A business case assessing the expansion is due back by August 2027. The project is expected to cost billions but aims to reshape how people move across the city.
