AJ Brimson mulls lucrative Chiefs offer over Titans contract
PNG Chiefs offer Brimson three years at $750,000 a season, tax-free, while Titans and Chiefs haggle over transition costs.
Coach Willie Peters wants versatile back AJ Brimson for the Chiefs' NRL team. The Chiefs have offered him a three-year contract worth $750,000 per season, tax-free.
Brimson currently earns $900,000 a year with the Titans, but the tax-free money means he takes home more. Negotiations stalled when the Titans and Chiefs disagreed on what Gold Coast should contribute to his deal starting 2028.
Peters remains keen and says they're waiting to hear back from Brimson's management and the Titans on next steps. The 19th NRL team is building a roster of PNG-connected players.

Why it mattersA tax-free deal with less total salary shows how overseas leagues attract NRL stars, reshaping the competition's balance.
AustraliaAn NRL star leaving Australia affects the league's depth and could set a precedent for other players to explore offshore options.
