Andrew Johns repeats himself endlessly during Newcastle's grand final loss

Johns turned down the night off to commentate, then repeated the same points so often fans mocked him online.

Newcastle great and NRL commentator Andrew Johns was offered the night off Sunday so he could enjoy the grand final freely. Johns declined.

Fans said that was a mistake. During Newcastle's one-point loss, Johns praised the Knights repeatedly and mentioned that statistics showed they should have lost by much more.

Johns wasn't the only commentator to use words like "brave", but Johns cycled through the same points so often that viewers complained he sounded like a broken record. One fan joked he repeated the stat about a 50-point-margin loss roughly 50 times.

Another noted the word "heart" appeared 47 times. The commentary drew wider criticism of Nine's coverage, with some viewers saying the broadcast lacked energy.
