NSW Labor fears losing dozen seats to One Nation in March election
Labor officials warned MPs the party could lose about 12 seats to One Nation across regional NSW.
NSW Labor headquarters has run a series of closed-door briefings warning MPs they face a worst-case scenario: losing a dozen or more seats and being bundled out of government after just one term. The vulnerable seats are mostly in regional areas: the Hunter, Central Coast, south-west Sydney and southern NSW.
One Nation's polling strength and the rise of protest votes against economic hardship are the main drivers. Premier Chris Minns said on Tuesday that if Labor loses, it will be to One Nation.
Some MPs remain sceptical the warnings are that dire, but party officials stress there is a genuine pathway for One Nation and the Liberals to form government instead.
