Transplant survivor to lead Tasmania at national games
Craig Bassett, who received a double transplant in 2022, will manage Tasmania's team at the Australian Transplant Games.
Craig Bassett spent decades with diabetes before his kidneys failed, forcing him onto dialysis in 2019. In 2022, he received a kidney and pancreas transplant, transforming his life.
Before the surgery, kidney failure left him with severe fatigue that made even basic tasks difficult. After his transplant, Bassett returned to competitive sport.
He won two gold medals in darts at the 2024 Australian Transplant Games in Canberra. Now 58, he has been named manager of Tasmania's team for the Games, which will be held in the state for the first time in their 40-year history.
