Rabbitohs veteran Walker sidelined with calf injury in NRL finals

Rabbitohs five-eighth Cody Walker, 36, suffered a calf injury in Friday's elimination final against Newcastle, likely ending his season.

Cody Walker collapsed with a calf injury in the first half of South Sydney's elimination final against Newcastle on Friday night. The 36-year-old five-eighth signalled to the bench immediately and hobbled off the field.

He dropped to the ground in visible pain. Walker is unsigned for 2027 and the club hasn't guaranteed extending his contract.

Despite the injury blow, South Sydney showed fight in the contest. The match also saw tension between Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell and former teammate Dane Gagai.

They exchanged words and pushes but avoided sin-bin time after the referee cautioned both captains.
