Stockland advances seven-site data centre expansion across Australia
Stockland is building seven data centre sites across Australia with power already secured for three.
One of Australia's biggest property developers is moving forward with data centre plans after forming a joint venture with global provider EdgeConneX in March. Stockland already runs one data centre in Sydney's Macquarie Park and has locked in power for three sites, including an expansion of that facility and two former warehouse sites in Melbourne's industrial suburbs of Cherry Lane and Brooklyn.
Four other sites are in earlier stages. They are in Wetherill Park and Kemps Creek in western Sydney and at Melbourne Business Park.
All sites are in industrial zones away from homes. Chief executive Tarun Gupta said the company is now seeking community and planning approval.
Cooling equipment noise has caused issues for rivals NextDC and Firmus, so Stockland chose industrial sites to avoid these problems.
