ACT ambulance survey reveals high stress, violence, morale crisis
Survey of 119 paramedics shows 41 per cent experience high stress, half report violence, more than 70 per cent cite understaffing.
A staff survey of 119 ACT ambulance workers has painted a bleak picture of workplace conditions. Only 16 per cent felt that service policies supported their health and wellbeing, far below the 54 per cent benchmark across the broader public service.
41 per cent reported high or very high stress levels, with more than 70 per cent saying understaffing was a main cause. Exactly half experienced violence or aggression at work, mostly from patients.
26 per cent reported being physically assaulted. Nearly 30 per cent experienced workplace bullying, and 13 per cent reported sexual harassment.
