ATO stops accepting credit card payments from December 2026
The ATO will stop taking credit card payments from December 2026 because it cannot pay for merchant fees.
The Australian Taxation Office will no longer accept credit card payments from December 2026. ATO Commissioner Rob Heferen told staff the decision stems from a national ban on payment card surcharges.
The agency cannot cover merchant fees after November 30. The ATO said the decision was not made lightly.
