Harry Coffey bids for Melbourne Cup ride after suspected collarbone break
Injured jockey Harry Coffey awaits clearance to ride Shockletz in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup after a fall and procedure.
Harry Coffey hit the ground hard in Saturday's second-last race at Flemington, clipped a heel and was catapulted into the air. Harry Coffey walked back to the mounting yard cradling his arm, then went to hospital.
Doctors suspect a broken collarbone. On Sunday he had a small procedure and now waits for his doctor to clear him to ride.
Coffey is booked on Ciaron Maher's lightweight chance Shockletz in the 3200-metre staying test. His manager Dean Hawkes said on Sunday: "He has not been ruled in, he has not been ruled out."
Maher said they would "give Harry every opportunity" but jockey Michael Dee has put his hand up as backup.
