Ex-jockey banned from driving 3 years after crash at .311 blood alcohol

Jarrod Lorensini, 47, banned for three years after crashing twice while more than six times over the legal limit.

Former jockey Jarrod Lorensini was sentenced on October 26 after pleading guilty to five drink-driving charges from two separate crashes. On March 25, 2026, he hit a concrete barrier and crashed into a ditch near Colac, then continued driving and swerved across the road before stopping at a golf club.

Police found him slurring his words with alcohol bottles throughout his car. The blood-alcohol test returned .311, more than six times over the legal limit.

A second crash on November 16, 2024, recorded .233. Lorensini's racing career ended in 2022 from a back injury.

He told the court he turned to alcohol afterward. He has since moved, stopped drinking and found work as a horse track worker.

Magistrate Ronald Saines banned him from driving for three years and fined him $3,000.
