Driver charged after crashing with blood alcohol nearly five times the legal
A 42-year-old was charged with high-range drink-driving after crashing his Mazda with a .221 blood alcohol reading, nearly five times the limit.
Swayam KC had spent the afternoon drinking bourbon whiskeys before heading to the pub for beers. Just after 8pm on September 26, he was driving his Mazda CX5 through Lavington when he turned into Breen Street and lost control.
The car smashed into a speed limit sign and a give-way sign with enough force to rip both posts out of the ground. The Mazda skidded another 120 metres before stopping in the middle of an intersection.
A breath test showed KC had a blood alcohol reading of .221, nearly five times the legal limit. He pleaded guilty to high-range drink-driving.
Judge Melissa Humphreys ordered a sentence assessment report; KC will be sentenced in six weeks.
