Patrick Stewart dies at 86

Patrick Stewart died Wednesday. He played Captain Picard and Professor Xavier. He had Alzheimer's and Lewy body dementia.

The British actor passed away at his home in Los Angeles. Stewart changed from a classical theatre veteran to a sci-fi icon.

Stewart played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, starting in 1987. The show's creator had doubts about casting a bald British actor.

But Stewart won him over. He stayed for seven seasons and four films.

Patrick Stewart later played Professor Charles Xavier in seven X-Men films. Stewart worked alongside Ian McKellen.
