Woman left with facial scars after violent assault

Dwayne David John Triffett was sentenced to three and a half years for attacking his girlfriend and leaving her with facial scars.

Dwayne David John Triffett, 42, was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Launceston on November 4 for wounding and assault on May 17. The victim, 43, was left with deep cuts to her scalp and chin, bruising to her head and body, and lost a front tooth in the attack.

Justice Robert Pearce found the evidence clear: Triffett grabbed her hair, smashed a bong on her face, dragged her to the ground, then punched and kicked her while wearing heavy boots. Blood evidence on the bong and his boots confirmed her account.

The judge rejected the defence claim that she had fallen and injured herself. Triffett had prior assault and family violence convictions in 2013 and 2021.

He was sentenced to three and a half years, with one year and six months suspended.
