Chinese spy close to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Trump briefed but took no action
US spy agencies found a Chinese woman close to Nvidia's CEO was passing Beijing intelligence.
Alice Huang, a Chinese executive at a Singapore data centre firm, was identified by US intelligence as a Chinese intelligence asset. Alice Huang had developed a close relationship with Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO.
The discovery alarmed US officials because Washington has worked for years to block China from getting advanced AI chips. Trump was briefed roughly a year ago on the surveillance findings but took no action.
He was reportedly reluctant to disrupt Nvidia's chip sales or complicate US-China trade. Nvidia said Alice Huang is simply a customer executive.
Jensen Huang meets thousands of customer leaders each year, the company said. Megaspeed, her firm, receives only ordinary business information and no national security secrets.
Surveillance of Alice Huang continues, and companies affiliated with her have kept buying Nvidia chips.

Why it mattersIf Beijing is getting intelligence from someone close to Nvidia's leadership, it could learn insights into US strategy on AI dominance, the defining competition between the superpowers.
AustraliaNo direct Australian effect yet, but US-China tensions over AI chip access and espionage could shape global tech supply chains and computing power available to Australian companies.
