Ballarat's WIN TV studios demolished after more than half a century

The 207 Walker Street studio, Ballarat's first TV home since 1962, is now being demolished.

The studios are being torn down, ending more than half a century as a broadcasting landmark in the city. Built in 1962, the site was home to BTV6, renamed VIC TV in 1989 and WIN TV from 1994 onwards.

For more than half a century it broadcast local news and entertainment, including shows like Six Tonight and Kids Tonight. Val Sarah, 86, was the station's first female announcer, starting in January 1963.

WIN TV relocated its Victorian news bulletins to Wollongong in 2015, leaving the Ballarat site unused. The two-hectare property has now been sold for residential development, with the rear section demolished to make way for further redevelopment.
