Australia stands firm on Russian fuel ban as Trump courts Putin
Energy minister Chris Bowen says Australia will not buy Russian fuel despite Trump's new diesel agreement with Putin.
Trump announced a deal with Putin to supply 300,000 tons of diesel to US and global markets immediately. November will see 500,000 tons, followed by up to 3 million tons later.
Australia's energy minister said Russia should not be rewarded for its invasion of Ukraine. Australia currently has 43 days' worth of petrol and 31 days' of diesel in reserve.
Fifty-one ships are carrying fuel, and 3.2 billion litres are contracted for delivery over the next four weeks. Bowen said Australia has arrangements with trading partners to prevent Russian fuel from reaching Australian markets.
