Man charged with reckless driving after fatal crash on Indian Ocean Drive

A 21-year-old was charged with reckless driving after a crash that killed a passenger on Indian Ocean Drive.

A grey BMW hit a tree on Indian Ocean Drive near Breton Bay on Thursday morning. The grey BMW killed a 22-year-old front-seat passenger.

The driver and two other passengers aged in their 20s survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Police charged the 21-year-old driver with reckless driving.

He went over the speed limit by at least 45km/h. The 21-year-old got bail.

He will appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on October 28. Emergency crews found the wreck hard to reach.

Fallen debris and thick vegetation were in the way. Police are seeking witnesses who saw the BMW in the hours before the crash.

They especially want those near Nambung National Park between midnight and 4am. They also want those from Lancelin between 5am and 7:30am.

They want those from Indian Ocean Drive between those towns before the impact.
