How a tiny foot wound led to heart surgery and a lost pregnancy

A small cut infected with bacteria that spread to her heart forced Australian model Leah Ramsey to undergo emergency valve surgery while pregnant. She lost her baby in June.

Ramsey stepped on a piece of glass that went unnoticed until it became infected days later. Doctors thought her symptoms, dizziness, fainting spells, exhaustion, were normal pregnancy problems.

They didn't realise bacteria had reached her heart and damaged her valve. She needed emergency surgery.

She lost her baby in June and now wants to warn others to trust their instincts about their own health.

Why it mattersHer experience shows how misdiagnosis can turn a small injury into tragedy, and why patients must speak up when something feels wrong.
