Richy Faust bowls medium pace off three-step run due to old knee injury
New Zealand indoor cricket international Richy Faust bowls with only a three-step run after tearing his meniscus a decade ago.
Richy Faust looked unusual walking up to bowl in his first match for Belvoir in the Cricket Albury-Wodonga Provincial competition. The New Zealand indoor cricket international approaches the crease off just three steps instead of a full run-up.
A torn meniscus ten years ago in New Zealand left him afraid to run in to bowl. Richy Faust flew to Australia and heard a massive pop when he landed, his knee reacting badly.
Since then, he has walked in instead of running. Faust represented the Kiwis at the World Cup in Sri Lanka and hopes to play in India next year.
At 40, he is a contemporary of former New Zealand Test cricketers including wicketkeeper BJ Watling. In his first appearance, Faust took 1 for 10 from six overs against St Patrick's and sits eighth for runs with 147 at an average of 49.
