Defence contractor denied bail over child abuse material charges
Nicholas Tyson Quinn, 42, works for a defence contractor. He was denied bail after being charged with possessing child abuse material.
Australian Border Force officers found child exploitation imagery on Quinn's devices when he landed in Sydney in May. The officers also found inappropriate messages on a messaging app.
The officers also found proof he had sent money to a teenager in Europe. ACT Policing searched his home and found more material on a USB device.
Magistrate Alexandra Burt refused bail on Friday, October 16. She had concerns about him keeping in contact after the airport intervention.
She was also concerned about his connection to people in Ukraine. His dual Australian and Latvian citizenship was also a factor.
Court documents say Quinn was in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old in Ukraine for a long time. Police said he kept contacting the teenager after being stopped at the airport.
