Unauthorized bridge party nearly derailed Brisbane's Riverfire
A viewing party on a bridge worksite nearly cancelled the 2023 Riverfire fireworks after union officials entered a restricted zone.
Union officials and their families attended an unauthorized party on Kangaroo Point Bridge construction site during the 2023 Riverfire. About 40 people went onto the bridge without safety gear and entered an exclusion zone that nearly stopped the show.
Police video showed CFMEU site delegate Cameron Paul and at least seven other union officials with their families on the site. The project manager said they were moved on quickly.
The video showed otherwise. Festival organisers confirmed the bridge had to be cleared before the show could start.
The incident is part of a state inquiry into the construction union's conduct.
