Jockey Michelle Payne's stalker denied bail over death threats

Craig Langford was denied bail for allegedly sending death threats and abuse to jockey Michelle Payne via Instagram.

Craig Langford, a 51-year-old from Werribee, was remanded in custody after allegedly bombarding jockey Michelle Payne with death threats and sexual abuse over three days last week. Langford sent the messages via Instagram despite telling police he did not use the platform.

The threats included wishing Payne and her family dead and calling her offensive names. Langford was already on bail for other alleged offences when he sent the messages.

A magistrate deemed him a risk to the community. Payne is a well-known public figure who can easily be found.

Payne told the ABC the level of violence in the threats was unimaginable. Langford will return to court next month.
