Three capybara brothers now at National Zoo and Aquarium
Tejo, Javi and Javiero, three brothers born at Sydney Zoo, are now home in Canberra.
Three capybara brothers have moved into a custom-built habitat at the National Zoo and Aquarium. The semi-aquatic rodents, the largest on Earth, arrived from Sydney Zoo and are already winning hearts.
Zoo director Renee Nasserpour said visitors have fallen in love, with one young member even sending the capybaras a hand-drawn love heart. Each brother shows its own personality: one is more energetic, another relaxed and keen to hang out with keepers.
The boys spend their days swimming, playing in pools and stretching on grass. They will soon join the zoo's close encounters program, letting visitors get up close.
A specially built habitat next to the llamas enclosure also features some new pygmy marmosets nearby.
