Samantha Schubert denied bail after allegedly swinging sword at housemate
The magistrate said the risks were too great, and the accused had failed to appear in court before.
Samantha Jane Schubert, 41, was refused bail in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, October 12. Schubert has not yet entered pleas to charges including endangering life and taking a car without consent.
Police allege she swung a samurai-style sword at her housemate's head after a verbal argument. The blade allegedly hit the housemate's left ring finger as she raised her arm above her head to protect herself.
She then allegedly stole the woman's car and drove away. Police found her near the car in Gordon at about 2.30am on Sunday.
The prosecutor said the alleged attack could have caused serious injury. Magistrate Lucinda Wilson said the risks were too great to grant bail.
Schubert also had a history of failing to appear in court when required.
