Doctors fought to save her remaining leg after surgery overnight. The alleged attacker, Brendan Nugent, 43, is a constituent from nearby Tarrawingee who is now in custody.
He was too impaired to be interviewed on the night of the attack due to the effects of drugs or alcohol. Authorities are investigating his motive.
